Care for your custom wood cutting board and block

Our boards are finished and oiled prior to shipment to seal and protect the grain from normal wear-and-tear of daily use. In order to maintain this board, we have included a few guidelines below to help ensure the woods natural beauty and durability for a lifetime of use.

1) Wash with hot soapy water after each use.

2) Towel dry after washing and lean on edge when drying to allow both sides to dry evenly. This will prevent warping and mold growth.

3) Apply oil when the board starts to fade (only use mineral oil, or butcher block oil).

4) When re-applying oil to your board (recommended once a day for the first week, then once a week for a month and then once a month for a year), it is very important to first clean with hot soapy water to remove any contaminants (including oils from fingerprints). Once board is cleaned and completely dried, a thin coat of oil is applied to the top and sides of the board. Let this oil soak into the board for 15-20 minutes. Once oil has set, remove any excess with a dry, cotton cloth. Flip board over and repeat for the bottom. Let board stand for 24 hours prior to using (If oil is applied and completely absorbed by the board prior to wiping, it is suggested to re-apply more oil until the board can no longer absorb. Oil will start to “pool” if the board cannot accept any more oil. Wipe off excess oil and allow board to sit for 24 hours).

5) To remove small stains or odors (i.e. from cutting garlic heads), rub a lemon wedge along the board, as this will neutralize any smells and remove any blemishes.

DO NOT Submerge or sink in water, or place in dishwasher. This can cause warping, and in severe cases, cracking.

DO NOT Apply any type of vegetable or nut oil, as these oils will eventually turn rancid after applied.
